This Los Altos rancher was transformed to a Craftsman style home through attention to detailing and woodwork insdie and out.

A new entry at the front of the home offers a welcome to all visitors while the beefy wood columns and river rock indicate stability and connection with the earth.

The interior space was re-designed to include an entry hall which allows the home to unfold gradually for the visitor, while antural light from the skylight draws them in.

One bedroom was sacrified in the remodel to make room for this library, a special \"away room\" for the book lovers in the family. The Craftsman detailing and craftsmanship make this room a \"Wow!\"

The library doors include weatherstripping designed to keep dust off the collectible books.

The main living room was enlarged by opening up connections to adjacent rooms and living the ceiling to 9\' in the center.

The connection among the library, entry hall and living room make the whole house seem more spacious than it is.

The fireplace was renovated with river rock and a salvaged douglas fir beam for the mantel.

Alder was used in the mail living areas for all the woodwork. The living room connects to dining room and kitchen where the trim is painted wood.

An 800 bottle wine cellar was added in an existing basement space which was originally a stairwell from the exterior.

A hand-painted mural in the wine cellar makes the space feel old world.

The guest bathroom continues the natural wood theme, now with distressed knotty Alder.
